When we arrived at the edge of the Gemini Cluster, we had a nasty surprise: a no-mana zone. Talking with Lazarus’ “friend”, we found out that the zone extends around the entire Gemini Cluster. Again, I am amazed by the capabilities of The Puppeteers. Merely because some “activists” caused problems for them here “several decades ago”, they decided to create a no-mana zone around the entire cluster. Either someone was very patient and took a long time to create the spell, they are incredible powerful mages, or they figured out a very cheap way to cast the equivalent of Drain Mana (or, most likely, some combination of the three). A typical yellow sun’s heliopause is roughly 6 * 10^13 feet in radius at the edge pointing towards the galactic center. Drain Mana costs 10 mana/3 feet so it would require ~2 * 10^14 mana to reach this edge. That means with a power assist, zero rest, casting Drain Mana unmodified, and ignoring a solar system’s outer asteroid belts; I could make a yellow sun’s solar system a no-mana zone in about 1000 years. Just a solar system. To go beyond a solar system to an interstellar scale is a quantum leap beyond that. Sheesh.
On a brighter note, I at least figured out how to cast in a slightly limited way in a no-mana zone, so my new magic capabilities are at least not dead while we’re in the Gemini Cluster.
